Best Dehumidifier for Apartment

Waykar 2000 Sq. Ft Dehumidifier for Home and Basements

  • Pints: 34 pints per day
  • Capacity: 2000 square feet
  • Water tank: 6.34 pints
  • Warranty: 2 year extended warranty

This is the best dehumidifier for apartment I could find with its extended warranty, 34 pints per day of capacity, and auto drain features.

What I like

What I like most about this dehumidifier is that it comes with effortless humidity control. All you have to do is set your desired humidity level, and this apartment dehumidifier will do the rest.

The water tank is 6.34 pints but if you’d like to use a drain hose instead, this unit comes with a 6.56 feet hose. You won’t ever have to empty out a messy water tank as long as you use the continuous draining function. You can also use the timer settings for increased energy efficiency.

If you opt to use the water tank, it will automatically shut itself off once it reaches capacity. The front panel gives you an LED light that turns on when it’s full. There’s also a window on the water tank, so you can monitor how full your water tank is getting from the outside.

The handle and 360 rotatable wheels will make it super easy to maneuver this dehumidifier all around your apartment. You will also get a 2 year extended warranty and a 30 day money back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied with your indoor air quality.

What I don’t like

One gripe about this dehumidifier is that it doesn’t have an auto defrost feature. For most apartments though, that shouldn’t be a deal breaker as frozen coils only happen when the temperature reaches below the recommended operating temperature.

If you do have a cold apartment, then I would recommend choosing the Midea 1,500 Sq. Ft instead.

Why I’m recommending this product

If you’re having issues with moist air, dust mites, and air quality in your apartment, this dehumidifier is going to take care of all of those issues. The air filter is washable, it uses intelligent sensors to control the humidity levels and best of all it comes with a 2 year warranty.

While I do recommend this dehumidifier for medium sized apartments around 2000 sq.ft, if you have a small apartment then I would recommend checking out the AIRPLUS 30 Pints dehumidifier instead.

Pros
  • 2 year warranty
  • Handle and wheels
  • 6.34 pint water tank
Cons
  • No auto defrost

Also Great Dehumidifier for Apartment

Midea 1,500 Sq. Ft. Energy Star Certified Dehumidifier

  • Pints: 22 pints per day
  • Water tank: 7.68 pints
  • Capacity: 1500 square feet
  • Warranty: 1 year

This affordable apartment dehumidifier is great for colder apartments and is super easy to move around.

What I like

I love that you can decide the capacity of this unit. If you are in an extra-damp apartment, then I would recommend choosing the 3000 to 4500sq.ft unit instead. You also have the option to use the “Cube” unit which would allow for the use of a huge water tank if you don’t have access to continuous drainage.

You can opt to use the drain hose outlet with a garden hose which will hold up better than a thin plastic drain hose that most dehumidifiers come with. You can adjust the fan speed to “turbo” mode to increase moisture removal when you need it as well.

This portable dehumidifier has wheels that aren’t visible and the side has recessed handles if you need to pick it up. The bucket is a bit larger than the Waykar 2000 Sq. Ft by around 1 pints which will make for less fuss if you opt to use the water bucket instead of a drain. It’s also energy star certified which will save you money on your energy bills.

All you need to do for maintenance is change out the washable air filter every few months and change out the water tank when it’s full. The water tank also tilts out and has a carrying handle, making it easy to remove and replace when necessary.

What I don’t like

This unit could be a tad small for larger spaces.

Why I’m recommending this product

This is one of the best dehumidifiers on the market right now. It’s got flexibility for all different sized apartments, and you can even purchase it with a pump if you can’t use the continuous drain function. It also has auto defrost making it great for colder apartments.

It does have a year less warranty than the Waykar 2000 Sq. Ftdehumidifier which is why this dehumidifier is runner up and not the winner!

Pros
  • Can be upgraded to larger capacity
  • Amazing reviews
  • Easy to remove water tank
  • Energy star certified
Cons
  • Too big for smaller spaces

Best Dehumidifier for Small Apartment

AIRPLUS 30 Pints Dehumidifier

  • Pints: 30 pints
  • Water tank: 3.17 pints
  • Capacity: 1500 square feet
  • Warranty: 2 year

For apartments that get damp, this 30 pint per day apartment dehumidifier will be able to control moisture levels all year long.

What I like

This sleek, modern 30 pint dehumidifier is going to be great for small apartments. While it’s only rated for 1500 square feet, it’s still capable of removing 30 pints of excess moisture per day. The water tank is 3.17 pints, but you can opt to use a drain hose for those extra damp days.

It has humidity auto control which will sense the humid air in the room and then turn itself on and off. It has four modes, standard, drying, sleep and raining. If you have clothes you need to dry, the drying mode will come in handy. The sleep mode will also let you get some shut eye without any disturbances.

The back has a detachable and washable air filter that will make it easy to maintain your dehumidifier. It comes in with a compact size as well coming in at 19.6×11.7″, making it fit in even cramped apartments.

Reviewers were happy with their units and how quiet it ran. They mention that when using this dehumidifier, they reduced the high humidity level in their homes, improved the air quality and no longer had water in their windows.

What I don’t like

This unit is not going to be great for any apartments above 1500 sq.ft. If you have a larger apartment, then you should look into Waykar 2000 Sq. Ft.

Why I’m recommending this product

Larger spaces require larger dehumidifiers. If you’re working with small spaces, then this dehumidifier will be sufficient enough for you. If you have an extra damp apartment, the 30 pints per day of absorption will come in handy.

If your apartment gets cold during the winter, you may want a dehumidifier with auto defrost like the Midea 1,500 Sq. Ft.

Pros
  • 3.17 pint water tank
  • 30 pints absorption per day
  • Sleek, aesthetic look
Cons
  • Not suitable for larger apartments
  • No auto-defrost

Best Budget Dehumidifier for Apartment

Gocheer Upgraded Dehumidifier

  • Pints: 2.11 pints per day
  • Capacity: 480 square feet
  • Warranty: 1 year warranty

This portable dehumidifier will make it easy to take from room to room in your apartment.

What I like

If you only need to dehumidify a room in your apartment, then you won’t need to overspend on a whole apartment dehumidifier. I like that it’s super small, giving you the ability to take it from room to room when you need it.

It can remove up to 2.11 pints of moisture per day and the water tank is 2000ML or roughly double the capacity. You’ll only need to replace the water tank once every two days which makes it less hassle than a bigger unit.

Considering this dehumidifier does not use a standard compressor, you will be able to enjoy much lower noise levels of 40dB. You’ll be able to get to sleep without any issues, other dehumidifiers may keep you awake if you have trouble sleeping as they’re around 10dB louder on average.

It’s also an energy efficient dehumidifier only spending 48W/hour. It’s super easy to use with only one button to press. Once the tank is full, it’ll shut itself off. This is a great dehumidifier to consider for your living space to prevent any musty odor, dust mites and excess moisture.

What I don’t like

This dehumidifier is only suitable for a VERY small apartment or room. Otherwise, you’ll need a larger unit like the Waykar 2000 Sq. Ft.

Why I’m recommending this product

A very small apartment is going to need a small dehumidifier. This is why I think this unit is going to win out over much bigger counterparts like the AIRPLUS 30 Pints. You’ll save over half the cost. It’ll keep your humidity levels in check and keep moist air at bay.

One note to consider is that this unit can only remove around 2 pints of moisture per day. If you have a very damp room of 500 square feet, you’ll be overworking this portable dehumidifier.

Pros
  • Only 48W/hour
  • One button press
  • Low noise levels
Cons
  • Not great for anything bigger than a very small apartment/room

Best Dehumidifier for Studio Apartment

SEAVON 68oz Dehumidifier

  • Absorption: 26 ounces per day
  • Water tank: 68 ounce
  • Capacity: 560 square feet
  • Warranty: 1 year warranty

With the average sized studio apartment being around 600 square feet, this dehumidifier is sized just about right.

What I like

This dehumidifier is the perfect size for studio apartments at around 600 square feet. One AMAZING feature that I don’t see any other dehumidifier on the market have is a remote control. Why does this unit have a remote but others much more expensive don’t? No idea!

This unit can collect 26 ounces per day which means you’ll only need to empty the water tank out once every three days. Larger units may fill up much faster requiring more work, so it’ll be nice to not have to worry about how full the tank is constantly.

This unit doesn’t use a compressor which means it’s going to operate at under 35 decibels. Perfect for anyone who wants to go to sleep, and in a studio apartment it’ll be tough to be far away from your dehumidifier. You can adjust the fan speed to turbo as well if you need rapid dehumidification.

It comes with a one year warranty and it’s much less expensive than the best dehumidifier on this list: Waykar 2000 Sq. Ft. As it’s only 15 x 10″, you’ll be able to fit it even in a cramped studio apartment.

What I don’t like

While this unit is sized for a 600sq.ft space, if the humidity levels in your apartment are high then this unit will be overworked fast. It also doesn’t have continuous draining so you’ll need to empty out the water tank by hand when it gets full.

Why I’m recommending this product

If you’re in a studio apartment, you don’t need a huge dehumidifier. It comes with all the features you’d want like portability, 2000ML tank, and quiet operation.

Keep in mind though if you have a very damp apartment, you would want a larger-sized unit like the Midea 1,500 Sq. Ft.

Pros
  • Great for studio apartments
  • 1 year warranty
  • Quiet
Cons
  • Will be overworked in bigger spaces than 600sq.ft
  • No continuous drainage

Best Dehumidifier for Small Apartment

Letsport Upgraded 68oz Dehumidifier

  • Water tank: 2000ML
  • Capacity: 480 sq.ft
  • Warranty: 1 year warranty

If you have a super small apartment or only need to service one room, this portable dehumidifier is what you need.

What I like

This is one of the smaller dehumidifiers I’ve reviewed. It won’t take up a ton of space coming in at 10 x 7″, which is even smaller than the already small Gocheer Upgraded Dehumidifier. It’s super quiet as it doesn’t use a compressor, allowing you to sleep when it’s nearby and active.

The water tank is 2000ML and it can absorb up to 34 ounces per day. You’ll only have to remove the water tank once every other day, and once the tank is full it automatically shuts itself off. The LED light will also warn you when the tank is nearing capacity.

You’ll be able to take this dehumidifier from room to room as it isn’t big and clunky like full sized dehumidifiers. It’s super easy to use as it only has one button to press. This unit also comes with a 1 year warranty and has a budget price.

What I don’t like

This unit won’t work below 41F and doesn’t have an auto-defrost feature. It also doesn’t have continuous drainage which means you’ll have to constantly empty the water tank.

Why I’m recommending this product

If you have a small apartment or only want to remove excess moisture in a single room, this will be more than enough. It comes with a one year warranty and is portable. Do keep in mind though it’s not going to be a good fit for very damp rooms, for that I would recommend the SEAVON 68oz Dehumidifier instead.

Pros
  • 1 year warranty
  • Cheap price
  • 2000ML water tank
Cons
  • Doesn’t work below 41F

Best Dehumidifier for Two Room Apartment

hOmeLabs 1,500 Sq. Ft Energy Star

  • Pints: 22 pints per day
  • Water tank: 7.68 pints
  • Capacity: 1500 square feet
  • Warranty: 2 years

If you have an apartment that’s around 1500 square feet, you’ll have no problem fixing your apartment humidity levels.

What I like

What I love most is that you can use the continuous drain hose outlet and avoid using the water tank. This way, you won’t ever have to worry about emptying out the water if you’re forgetful like me

The only maintenance you’ll need to do is rinse the washable filter every month or so. It’s also an energy star certified dehumidifier which will save you money compared to inefficient other apartment dehumidifiers.

You can adjust the fan speed to control the ambient humidity. It comes with all the great features you’d want like auto shut off, auto restart, and auto defrost making it a good fit for colder apartments.

I also like that if you’re in a scenario where you don’t want to continuously drain your dehumidifier, you can opt to upgrade to a built in pump compressor. This way, you can pump the water up if you’re in an apartment where gravity drain isn’t an option.

What I don’t like

This unit is not going to be great for small apartments.

Why I’m recommending this product

With all the great features you’d expect out of the best dehumidifier for apartment like auto defrost, auto restart, and auto shut off, it’s hard to go wrong with this option. If you’re in a larger apartment or a very humid apartment, you can opt to go for a larger unit or even decide to go with a built in pump.

You can also check out our guide for best dehumidifiers with a pump if you’re considering that option.

If you have a smaller apartment, then I would suggest going with a unit sized for that like the SEAVON 68oz Dehumidifier instead.

Pros
    • 22 pints per day
    • 1500 sq.ft capacity
    • 2 year warranty
Cons
  • Overkill for small apartments and/or singular rooms

Benefits of a Dehumidifier in Apartments?

Reduce mold and mildew

An apartment dehumidifier can do wonders for any mold and mildew issues you may have. By controlling the moisture levels in your space, it will kill off any mold and mildew that may be growing in your apartment. If you have mold in your bathroom, you may want to look into a bathroom dehumidifier.

Water leakages

If you have a flood or water leakage in your apartment, a dehumidifier will be necessary to speed up the drying process. Otherwise, you may have to wait for a while before you can use your apartment again. If you have experienced a major flood or water leak, a commercial dehumidifier may be necessary.

Prevents musty odor

Musty odors can come from mold and mildew growth. Once you’ve restored the humidity levels in your apartment, you won’t have to rely on an air purifier to remove any smells, your dehumidifier will aid in that process.

You can also look into a dehumidifier/air purifier combo but unfortunately, these units are not rated for a larger apartment.

Prevents allergy symptoms

Not unlike an HVAC filter for allergies, dehumidifiers have an air filter which will also help remove any allergens. With less mold and mildew, that means fewer allergens in the air to disturb you.

Better air quality

Higher humidity levels can make it harder to breathe inside your apartment. The ideal indoor humidity for health is between 30-50%, and in humid climates, getting it to that level without a dehumidifier will be nearly impossible.

Lower Energy Costs

While a dehumidifier itself can raise the energy bill, you have to keep in mind that lower humidity will make it easier on your air conditioner. You won’t have to stress your air conditioner as hard to keep your apartment at a comfortable temperature.

How to Choose a Dehumidifier for an Apartment

Size

The maximum moisture removal capacity of your dehumidifier is important. Depending on the dampness level of your apartment, you’ll need to adjust the size of your dehumidifier.

The more damp, the more pints per day you’ll need to go with. If you don’t know how large your apartment is, then measure it and follow the guidelines here to figure out the right size dehumidifier.

Warranty

Warranty is important because you’re buying an expensive product. Buying a reputable brand will make it easier to service your unit

Continuous drain

If you don’t want to empty out your tank every so often, then continuous drain will allow for a no-fuss solution. The downside here is that in an apartment, it may not be viable to have a drain hose going around your already cramped space.

Mobility

The best dehumidifier for an apartment will also need to have wheels on the bottom for easy portability, and it will also be ideal if it has recessed handles on the side to make it easy to pick up.

Energy efficiency

Depending on where you live, energy costs may be high. If you can find a dehumidifier that’s energy star rated, it will ensure that you keep energy bills low.

Noise level

If you sleep near your dehumidifier, you’ll want one that has quiet operation. Larger dehumidifiers have a compressor which will create more noise than a smaller dehumidifier that doesn’t. Keep that in mind, but larger dehumidfiers also have quiet modes that run near 48dB which is around the sound of moderate rainfall.

Final Thoughts

The best dehumidifier for apartment I could find was the Waykar 2000 Sq. Ft. With its hefty tank, 2 year warranty, continous drain and feature rich settings, it’s all you’ll need for medium to larger sized apartments.

If you have an apartment on the smaller side or want to dehumidify a single room, you can go with the SEAVON 68oz Dehumidifier instead. Looking for a quiet dehumidifier? Check out our buying guide.
