Best Garage Dehumidifier for Any Sized Garage

Depending on the size of your garage and how humid it is, you may need a larger dehumidifier than you think.

That’s why I recommend the Kesnos 70 Pint. With its stylish form factor, 70-pint capacity, and intelligent humidity control, you won’t have any issue keeping a large garage dry.

Another budget option would be the Midea Cube 20 Pint if you have a smaller garage or want to save some money. You can use its huge tank or even upgrade the unit to a larger capacity if you’d like.

Best Garage Dehumidifier

Kesnos 70 Pint Dehumidifiers

  • Pints: 70
  • Capacity: 4500 sq.ft
  • Warranty: 1 year + option to extend another year

If you have a big garage, you’re going to want a capable dehumidifier. With its 70 pint capacity, this Kesnos garage dehumidifier takes home first place.

What I like

I love that this unit is capable of removing 70 pints of water from your garage. This is super useful if your garage is humid. Keep in mind that doesn’t mean that the tank is 70 pints, the tank is 4.5 liters or 9.5 pints. You will however, be able to use the continuous drain function and enjoy 70 pints of excess moisture removal.

This garage dehumidifier can service a 4500 square foot space, which is going to be plenty for even large garages. You’ll be able to enjoy its sleek design that fits in with any garage decor. It may not look like it, but it has wheels on the bottom so you can get it out of the way when you need to shift stuff around to get work done.

The intelligent touch control panel allows you to control your preferred humidity levels and then senses your garage to ensure you’re always at the proper humidity levels. You can also use the 24 hour timer but no need to worry, it has an auto shutoff feature if the tank gets full.

With this garage dehumidifier, you’ll be able to adjust the humidity from 30-85%, which is a bit lower than comparable models. You can take it with you inside of your home easily and you’ll be able to enjoy from a 1 year warranty as well as 30 day money back guarantee.

What I don’t like

For some reason, dehumidifiers don’t come with a remote which is a bit annoying. If you don’t set up a continuous drain, then you will have to empty out the water tank a few times per day depending on where you live.

Why we’re recommending this product

For a large, humid garage, you’ll be able to enjoy 70 pints of excess moisture removal per day. Compared to the AIRPLUS 70 Pints, it has a much more sleek, modern look that I quite enjoy. If you’re working with a smaller garage, then you should look into a cheaper option like the Midea Cube 20 Pint.

You’ll also be able to take it from room to room, it has a washable air filter and the intelligent humidity control will control your garage’s humidity levels all year long. If you’re suffering from high humidity levels, then this large-size dehumidifier is going to do the trick.

Overall, this was the best dehumidifier for garage that I could find.

Also Great Garage Dehumidifier

AIRPLUS 70 Pints 4,500 Sq. Ft. Dehumidifier

  • Pints: 70
  • Capacity: 4500 square feet
  • Warranty: 2 year

This unit is another contender for best garage dehumidifiers, it has all the features you’d want plus it’s a bit cheaper than the first option.

What I like

You can save money and enjoy tons of features with this garage dehumidifier. It’s capable of servicing a 4500 square foot space and can remove up to 70 pints of moisture per day. The tank is 4.1L which is a bit smaller than the first option.

You can still enjoy four modes, from standard, raining, drying and sleep for quiet operation. The auto shut off feature will ensure that the unit shuts off as soon as the tank is full. I recommend using a drain hose with the continuous drain feature so you won’t have to empty out the water tank yourself.

The casters on the bottom are a nice touch, you’ll be able to move it to any corner in your garage with ease. The washable air filter makes for easy maintenance and it has an automatic defrost feature to keep the coils from freezing.

The handle on the side makes it easy to pick up and down if you don’t want to use the wheels. The automatic detection will also adjust the humidity levels based on the humidity in the room so you save on energy costs all year round. It comes with a 2 year warranty and a money back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied with this product.

What I don’t like

This unit has a chunkier appearance which I don’t like compared to the sleek look of the Kesnos 70. The tank capacity is on the smaller side as well at 4.1 liters.

Why we’re recommending this product

Reviewers of this dehumidifier for your garage were super happy with this product. They noted how they didn’t even realize how much moisture removal they needed!

If you run this dehumidifier with continuous drainage, you won’t have to worry about the smallish tank capacity and you’ll be able to enjoy a lower price tag as well.

I think that if you have a large garage, then this dehumidifier is going to keep your desired humidity level in check all year round.

Best Dehumidifier for Cold Garage

BLACK+DECKER 4500 Sq. Ft. Dehumidifier

  • Pints: 50 pints
  • Capacity: 4500 square feet
  • Warranty: 1 year warranty

Cold garages need dehumidifiers that work around that, and this unit works down to 41F.

What I like

If you have an unheated garage, you may be worried that your dehumidifier will freeze up on you. This unit has an operating range of 41° – 89.6° Fahrenheit giving you the flexibility you need.

The water tank is on the larger side at 14.3 pints. I like that you can see the water levels from the outside so you’re never in the dark of when you need to empty out the water tank. You can hook up a drain hose to the drain house outlet as well for easy usage.

It comes with a 16.4 foot drain hose which you can direct outside or to a drain that you have installed in the garage. The front panel has an easy to use display with a 24 hour timer, bucket indicator light and humidity level controls.

The recessed handles on the side will make it easy to transport from room to room if you want this to be a portable dehumidifier. This unit is perfect for large garages that also need a little extra help with cold temperatures.

What I don’t like

This unit doesn’t have intelligent humidity control like the AIRPLUS 70 and is a bit pricier as well.

Why we’re recommending this product

You’ll want your dehumidifier to work at the optimal operating temperature otherwise you’ll encounter issues like the coils freezing. Like all the best garage dehumidifiers, this unit has a drain hose outlet, is suitable for cold garages down to 41F, and has casters on the bottom.

You can see the water tank from the outside which is a convenient feature compared to other dehumidifiers for garages I came across. While it is pricier than the Kesnos 70, it does offer a larger water tank capacity.

Best Desiccant Dehumidifier for Garage

JJ CARE Silica Gel Dehumidifier

Did you know that you can use desiccants as a dehumidifier for a garage? Instead of fiddling with water tanks and electricity, you can rely on this no-fuss option.

What I like

I love that this desiccant garage dehumidifier doesn’t use any electricity. It comes with 6 canisters with 50g of desiccant within each. You can put them around your garage and get rid of the moisture without an expensive investment.

The silica gel within is top-grade so that you can extract the maximum amount of moisture from the air. The beads within will let you know when they’ve been saturated as they will turn from orange to green.

This dehumidifier is also reusable! Simply place the canister in the oven for a few hours until they turn orange again, and it’s good as new. You may however need to heat them longer if they’ve been oversaturated.

What I don’t like

The obvious downside is that they won’t be anywhere near as effective as a good dehumidifier. Another downside is that if you spill the silica gel, it’ll be difficult to clean up as many reviewers mentioned.

Why we’re recommending this product

You may want to dehumidify your shoe storage in your garage or your garage storage containers. This way, you won’t need to spend a ton of money when you only want to protect certain items in your garage.

Best Budget Dehumidifier for Garage

Midea Cube 20 Pint Dehumidifier with Smart Wi-Fi

  • Pints: 20
  • Capacity: 1500 square feet
  • Warranty: 1 year

With its unique design, Wi-Fi capabilities and large water tank, it’s hard to go wrong with this budget option.

What I like

This is not only one of the best garage dehumidifiers, it’s also one of the best dehumidifiers I’ve seen for the price. It comes with WiFi features, a drain hose and it’s Energy Star’s most efficient of 2022 for extra energy savings.

The tank on this unit is capable of holding 4.2 gallons. That’s almost 3x that of the Kesnos 70 Pint and it costs less too! You can choose to upgrade it depending on the size of your garage from 1500 sq.ft to 4500 sq.ft or even add an additional pump.

The unique design allows for you to empty out the water tank separately or use it as is with drain house outlet and keep it on a continuous drain. The handle on the top makes it super easy to empty the water tank, which can’t be said for other similar models.

This model also employs auto-restart, auto-shutoff and can keep the humidity level in your room from 35-85% depending on your preference. This small dehumidifier can also be stored in tinier spaces which is great for small garages.

What I don’t like

It’s hard to find a fault with this dehumidifier for garage, it’s that good!

Why we’re recommending this product

With its unique form, you’ll be able to use the huge 4.8 gallon water tank on the bottom. If you don’t want to use the water tank, you can use the continuous drain option and enjoy its smaller form factor compared to a traditional dehumidifier like the AIRPLUS 70.

For the price, it’s hard to even call this a budget dehumidifier for garage, it’s perfect!

Best Heavy Duty Dehumidifier for Garage

AlorAir Duct-able Version Basement/Crawl Space Dehumidifiers

  • Pints: 90 pints per day
  • Capacity: 2600 square feet
  • Warranty: 5 years

If you have a huge garage you need to take care of, then you can use this option with your ducts or as a standalone unit with a continuous drain.

What I like

If your garage is hooked into your HVAC system in your home, then you can simply use this in your duct system and enjoy a dehumidifier garage all year round without any fuss. If you want to keep it as a single unit, then you can use its continous drain option.

The pump will keep the water flowing to wherever you decide to drain your water. With 90 pints of removal per day and 198 pints at saturation, you’ll be able to enjoy a dry garage once this commercial dehumidifier is working in your garage.

If you’re worried about frost, the automatic defrost will make this unit work at low temperatures (up to 36 degrees Fahrenheit). That’s even less than BLACK+DECKER 4500 Sq. Ft.

What’s great about this unit is that unlike all the garage dehumidifiers I’ve reviewed, this one has a 5 year warranty. Should anything go wrong, you’ll be able to stand with AlorAir and get your expensive unit serviced.

What I don’t like

This unit is much, much pricier than other units on this list.

Why we’re recommending this product

While it is a bit bulky, if you have a large garage workshop to dehumidify, this is one of the best options available. You can also opt to use it in your duct system or crawl space and keep it out of sight out of mind.

It has all the features you’d ever want and can remove up to 198 pints per day at full saturation. The 5 year warranty is also a nice touch that will give you peace of mind.

Best area to place garage dehumidifier?

The best place to put a dehumidifier in your garage is in the middle. This may be difficult to achieve if you park your car in your garage. If you use your garage as a workshop, it’ll become a walking hazard. It doesn’t have to be smack dab in the middle, but get it as close to the action as possible.

If you find that moisture builds up around the outskirts of your garage, then move your garage to said area so that your dehumidifier has a better chance of working optimally.

What to look for in a garage dehumidifier?

Drain Options

What I would factor in as the most important feature is a continuous drain. While some dehumidifiers may be rated for a certain amount of pints per day, that doesn’t mean that the tank will be able to hold that many pints. That means that you’ll need to drain your water tank multiple times per day unless you have continuous drainage set up.

Dehumidifiers with continuous drainage will also have a built in pump that will extract the water to wherever you have the drain set up. If you can drain the water to a bigger bucket or even outdoors to a drain, then I would suggest doing that.

Find the best dehumidifier for your garage that you can that also covers the square feet you’re working with. Most dehumidifiers are rated for much larger spaces than the average two car garage, but they’re only sized at an optimal operating temperature and humidity level. It’s important to factor in the humidity level of your room, if you suffer from excessive humidity you will need to purchase a bigger model than you think.

Warranty is important because you’ll want reassurance should anything go wrong with your compressor within a year. Longer is better, but every dehumidifier on this list has at least a year warranty attached.

Pints Per Day

Dehumidifiers are rated at pints per day. If you have an extremely humid garage, you’ll want to pick up on either a 50 or 70 pint dehumidifier so it won’t have any problem keeping up with a humid environment.

Extra Features

Extra features like a built in pump, high efficiency rotary compressor, auto restart for a power outage and auto defrost function are all extra features that will increase your quality of life. If you have a colder garage, you’ll want to get a unit that is rated to work at lower temperatures.

A portable dehumidifier will make it easy to transport your dehumidifier from room to room as well as in your garage. Wheels on the bottom will make it easy to get your dehumidifier where you need it to go.

How to use a dehumidifier in the garage?

To use a dehumidifier in your garage, simply turn it on and place it near where you need the moisture to be absorbed most. If you can, leave it in the center of your garage. You can set up gravity fed continuous draining or use a built in pump to remove moisture from your garage.

You can also choose to let the tank fill up with the excess moisture, but if you do so, remember to check the tank every now and again. Most units have a check tank indicator on the LCD display.

You will need to wash the filter so your dehumidifier works optimally all year round.

Wrapping it Up

If you have a large garage, then the Kesnos 70 Pint is going to suit you well. I especially like the form factor compared to other dehumidifiers and for the price, it’s hard to beat.

A great budget option is this Midea Cube 20 Pint with its large 4.2 gallon tank which is 3x the size of a normal dehumidifier. It’s only rated for 20 pints per day, but you can decide to upgrade it and enjoy not having to empty the water tank as much as other comparable units.
