Best Quiet Dehumidifier

As a light sleeper myself, I know how difficult it can be going to sleep with noisy appliances in the background! Normal dehumidifiers operate above 60dB, which is not going to do well for anyone who loves quiet.

After looking through countless dehumidifiers, I found the best quiet dehumidifier to be the TOSOT 20 Pint. It’s energy star certified, can service a 1500 square foot space and it runs at around 48dB.

If you want ultra-quiet operation, then I would recommend going with the Yaufey 1750 Sq. Ft Dehumidifiers instead. Do keep in mind though while it does operate at a lower decibel level, it’s not energy star certified.

If you want to find a budget option or alternative recommendations, you can check those all before.

Let’s get started.

Best Quiet Dehumidifier

TOSOT 20 Pint 1,500 Sq Ft Dehumidifier Energy Star

  • Absorption: 20 pints per day
  • Decibel: 48dB
  • Capacity: 1500 sq ft
  • Warranty: 1 year

With its combination of capacity and low decibel level, you’ll love this quiet dehumidifier.

What I like

While this specific unit is rated for 20 pints per day of absorption, you can opt to choose a larger sized dehumidifier depending on the size fo your room. It’s energy star certified, so you’ll be saving energy costs all year long.

Another great feature is the 1 gallon drain bucket with a carrying handle, making it easy to dump out the excess water. You can see how full the tank is from the outside as well for ease of use. If you don’t want to use the tank, you can opt to use a garden hose with continuous drain.

This unit operates at 48 decibels which is in between the sound of moderate rainfall and a quiet library. That is on the lowest operation, if you opt to use it on its highest settings, then it will be 52 decibels which is still considered quiet.

If you have a power outage, this quiet dehumidifier is going to revert exactly where it once was with its auto restart feature. Reviewers mention that even the 70 pint version was a super quiet dehumidifier and had no problem with its whisper quiet operation.

What I don’t like

This unit doesn’t have auto defrost which will be a necessity for colder apartments.

Why I’m recommending this product

While this isn’t going to be the quietest dehumidifier ever, it does offer a year warranty, is rich in features, and has a great aesthetic to it as well. Choose the right size for your environment and you’ll have no issue getting to sleep as well as dealing with excess moisture.

If you have a smaller space then it might make more sense to look into a dehumidifier without a compressor that will have ultra quiet operation like the Yaufey 1750 Sq. Ft.

Pros
  • 1500 sq. ft. capacity
  • Can upgrade to larger capacity
  • 48 decibel noise level
Cons
  • Not as quiet as other units (but has more capacity)
  • Doesn’t have auto defrost

Also Great Quiet Dehumidifier

Yaufey 1750 Sq. Ft Dehumidifiers for Home

  • Absorption: 32.7 pints per day
  • Decibel: 35dB
  • Capacity: 1750 sq ft
  • Warranty: 1 year warranty

Using ultra quiet peltier technology, this dehumidifier is able to work down to 35dB on its lowest setting.

What I like

This dehumidifier is unique in that it doesn’t have a traditional compressor allowing it to be one of the quietest dehumidifiers I’ve reviewed. It’s suitable for up to 1750 square feet and can absorb up to 32.7 pints per day in optimal conditions.

The bottom has wheels which will make it easy to move around your home. You have a variety of features to choose from on the control panel like humidity auto control, auto shut off, auto defrost, and 24 hour timer.

The water tank is 3.84 liters but you can opt to use the included 2 meter long drain hose and use the continuous drain option. All the maintenance you have to do is clean the washable air filter and give the unit a quick wipe down and you’ll be set.

Once the unit is full, it will automatically shut off and remind you to empty the water tank on the control panel. Yaufey offers a 30 day money back guarantee and 12 months of free replacement should anything go wrong.

What I don’t like

This 32.7 pint dehumidifier isn’t energy star certified which is a big bummer. It also doesn’t allow for a garden hose to be used with the continuous drain. That alone is less appealing if you are in an ultra damp environment.

Why I’m recommending this product

This unit is a bit quieter than the TOSOT 20 Pint 1,500 but you can’t use a garden hose with the drain outlet and it’s not energy star certified. If you don’t mind the features missing, then this is another great quiet dehumidifier that will remove moisture while staying extremely quiet.

Pros
  • 35 decibel level
  • 1750 square feet capacity
  • Has continious drain
Cons
  • Can’t use it with a garden hose
  • Not energy star certified

Best Budget Quiet Dehumidifier

SEAVON 68oz Dehumidifiers

  • Absorption: 1.62 pints per day
  • Decibel: 35dB
  • Capacity: 560 sq ft
  • Warranty: 1 year

This quiet dehumidifier has something most dehumidifiers don’t, a remote!

What I like

Not all quiet dehumidifiers come with a remote, but this one does! Even after reviewing hundreds of different dehumidifiers, it still surprises me how they all don’t come with a remote. Thankfully, you’ll be able to control this unit from anywhere in the room.

If you’re worried about noise level, this unit only creates 35dB of noise. It’s about as near as you’ll get to silent dehumidifiers. It absorbs 1.625 pints a day and the tank is 2000ML, so you’ll only need to empty it out once every 2 days. The front also has an indicator light if the water tank gets full.

You can opt to use the turbo mode and change the fan speed to high allowing for faster dehumidification. It’s a perfect fit for smaller basements, RVs, bathrooms and kitchens. You’ll get a one year warranty and a free upgrade replacement if anything goes wrong.

What I don’t like

If the humidity is very high, then this unit will not work effectively. It also doesn’t work down in lower temperatures at all. It doesn’t have a control panel either, it’s simply one button. Also doesn’t offer continuous drain.

Why I’m recommending this product

This is one of the best quiet dehumidifiers that I could find in this price range. It’s suitable for up to 560sq.ft and considering its a smaller unit, will be more energy efficient than larger dehumidifiers.

One downside is that this dehumidifier will not work well down in colder temperatures, if you live in a colder climate then it may be worth checking out the other budget option: REEMKIZZ 78 oz.

Pros
  • 35 decibel operation
  • Has remote
  • Only need to replace tank every other day
Cons
  • Doesn’t work well in high humidity levels
  • No control panel
  • No continuous drain

Also Great Budget Dehumidifier

REEMKIZZ 78 oz Dehumidifier Auto Defrost Dehumidifier

  • Absorption: 1.69 pints per day
  • Decibel: Less than 35dB
  • Capacity: 500 sq ft
  • Warranty: N/A

This quiet dehumidifier operates at less than 35dB, which will not disturb even the lightest sleepers.

What I like

If you only need to dehumidify a room around 500 square feet, then a dehumidifier of this size is going to be perfect. It can absorb 1.69 pints of moisture per day and the tank is 4.87 pints. You’ll only need to empty out the water tank every other day!

This dehumidifier doesn’t have a compressor and uses Peltier technology to allow for the noise level to be super low at 35dB. It comes with a timer and auto-shut off feature which will turn the unit off when the tank is full.

While this unit is still a budget option, you still get to enjoy from the auto defrost feature which will keep this unit working even in low temperatures. Considering that this unit is much smaller than a more traditional dehumidifier, it will be much more energy efficient due to its form factor.

One neat feature is that you can use the built in nightlight and choose from 7 colors. This will be great if you’d like to put this in a kid’s room or you enjoy from a variety of different colors to lull you to sleep.

What I don’t like

While this is a portable dehumidifier, it won’t be a suitable replacement for large dehumidifiers.

Why I’m recommending this product

If you only need to dehumidify a room and not an entire apartment or house, this quiet dehumidifier will get the job done. It even has auto defrost for colder spaces but watch out as it won’t work well below 47F.

If you need a larger unit, then I’d recommend the TOSOT 20 Pint. While it is around 10dB louder, you will be able to enjoy its high capacity and ability to control the humidity level in your home.

Pros
  • Auto defrost
  • 35 dB noise level
  • Has built in nightlight
Cons
  • Not suitable for larger spaces

Alternative Option

Afloia 500 Sq. Ft

  • Pints: 15 pints
  • Decibel: 45dB
  • Capacity: 500 square feet
  • Warranty: Lifetime warranty (But you need to register within 7 days)

This desiccant dehumidifier is a great alternative option to the other quiet dehumidifiers on this list.

What I like

This 15 pint dehumidifier will be great for moderately damp rooms of around 500 square feet. It doesn’t use a compressor, but it does use desiccants to control the humidity level instead. It has a 5.28 pint water tank and can absorb 15 pints of moisture from the air a day.

You can opt to use automatic drain or manual/continuous drain. It comes with a 6.56 foot drain hose that you can use for continuous drain. If you use the water tank, the full tank indicator light will let you know when it’s time to empty the water tank.

This unit is also lighter than normal dehumidifiers and has a handle on top to make it a portable dehumidifier. Compared to the other quiet dehumidifiers, none of them offered a handle.

All you need to do to maintain this unit is clean the washable filter and that’s it! The control panel is feature rich as well with fan speeds, timer, humidity control, clothes dry and even a swing option to control the hot air that’s released from this dehumidifier.

What I don’t like

One odd “feature” is that the lifetime warranty is only available if you register the unit within 7 days of purchasing. This is a bit underhanded and unfair to consumers who aren’t aware that this exists. If you do purchase this dehumidifier, make sure to get it registered.

Why I’m recommending this product

If you want to be able to take your dehumidifier easily around your home with the handle, you’ll have no issue. It also weighs twice as less as bulkier units and still offers 15 pints of absorption per day. This unit also can run down to super low temperatures, around 23F making it great for basements.

It’s not the quietest unit out there at 45dB, but it does make up for it with its feature rich options. If you need ultra quiet operation, then I would suggest going with other quiet dehumidifiers like the Yaufey 1750 Sq. Ft.

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Has handle
  • 15 pint per day capacity
Cons
  • Not suitable for larger spaces
  • Not the quietest out there

What to look for in a quiet dehumidifier?

Decibel level

If you’re looking for the best quiet dehumidifier, you’re going to want to find a unit that runs under 50 decibels. Otherwise, it may not be as quiet as you’d like it. 50 decibels is around the noise level of a quiet office and below 30 is a whisper. The bigger the unit, the more noise it will make so take that into account when browsing the best quiet dehumidifiers on this list.

Capacity

When purchasing a quiet dehumidifier, you want it to be able to service the size of your room. Otherwise, your unit will be overworked and not be able to dehumidify your room. You can start by measuring the size of your room and then either measure the humidity level or guess depending on how it feels in the room.

After that’s done, you can size your dehumidifier with this guide.

Warranty

A long warranty will ensure that you won’t have any issues with your dehumidifier breaking on you within year. It’s best to find one from a reputable brand that you can trust and will not give you any issues when or if you need to get a replacement.

Portability

If you’re going to be moving your quiet dehumidifier around, you’ll want to find a model with a handle like the Afloia 500 Sq. Ft. Wheels on the bottom will also make it easy to maneuver around your home. If your dehumidifier is filled with water and you try to move it and it doesn’t have wheels, it can make for a messy time.

Continuous drain

Continuous draining will allow for a no-fuss solution for moisture removal in your home. One issue though is most of the quiet dehumidifiers on this list don’t have an internal condensate pump. This means that you won’t be able to pump the water in an upward direction, so it won’t be great for basements.

You can find our list of best dehumidifiers with a pump here.

Energy Efficient

Energy efficient dehumidifiers will make for lower energy bills at the end of the month. Not all dehumidifiers will be energy star certified, but if they are you will be able to enjoy low energy consumption.

How quiet should my dehumidifier be?

Normal dehumidifiers operate between 53 and 65dB. The ones on this list are all going to operate below 50dB.

Can I make my dehumidifier quieter?

If your dehumidifier has a sleep option, you can make your dehumidifier quieter that way. You can also try turning the fan speed down as well. Your dehumidifier may be broken if it suddenly is making more noise than usual.

Are there any dehumidifiers that are quiet?

Yes, some are even as quiet as 35 decibels which is as quiet as a whisper. These dehumidifiers are not traditional though and aren’t able to service rooms above 600 sq.ft for the most part.

Final Thoughts

If you’re dehumidifying a decently sized space, then the TOSOT 20 Pint dehumidifier is a great option to choose from. With its 1 year warranty, 48dB noise level, and continuous drain option, you’ll have no worries taking care of mold, mildew and dust mites.

If you need a super quiet dehumidifier, then I would recommend REEMKIZZ 78 oz Dehumidifier. Be mindful though while it does operate at around 35dB, it will not be suitable for bigger spaces.
